Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

INTERFREIGHT Ltd has appealed against a Solihull Borough Council decision to refuse planning permission for an 85-acre inland freight port (CM, June 13).

The appeal was lodged earlier this week and a public inquiry is expected to follow later this year. It is understood that despite a refusal for the development by the council, cer tain councillors have voiced opinions in favour of the E20m scheme.

The development was turned down on "green belt grounds". Solihull has "adamant and blinkered" views on the subject, according to Interfreight, which hopes that the scheme will bring much-needed jobs to the depressed area.

Road Haulage Association West Midlands area secretary Bob Ward said this week that, apart from bringing possible new work for local hauliers, the Interfreight scheme might also provide parking space for operators which are being put under pressure by West Midlands County Council to find alternative operating centres.
