• The Scottish LA, Mr. A. B. Birnie, hearing an application for a B-licence by Mr. R. Lumsden in Edinburgh on Monday. heard a supporting witness state that the National Coal Board had indicated a preference for owner drivers as delivery contractors.
Mr. I. C. Thomas, the witness. said he operated two vehicles but because of recent prosecutions regarding coal deliveries, the difficulty of securing staff for this work, and the NCB's preference for owner drivers, he had agreed to sell one of his vehicles to Mr. Lumsden.
The case was adjourned to allow Mr. Lumsden, at present on holiday, to attend.
