Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Larrow Transport (Northern) Ltd. was fined £50 with £10 costs, at Grays Thurrock magistrates court last Friday, for exceeding the total permitted weight transmitted through two wheels. The company did not enter any plea.

Miss C. Alton, representing the MoT, said the vehicle was stopped on A13 at Purfleet on January 14 and weighed by Mr. G. W. Martin, MoT traffic examiner. The weight transmitted via the rear axle was 1 ton 9cwt more than the legal maximum limit.

Miss Alton said that when Mr. Martin asked the driver if he had weighed the vehicle, or if he intended to have it weighed, he replied, "no". and added he had no idea of the vehicle's weight.

Before passing sentence, the magistrates were asked to consider four previous convictions dating from November 21 1968 with fines totalling £92.
