Suzukl's new Carry van, launched at the Brussels Show (0/421-27 Jan), has now gone on sale in the UK at a price of £6,895 (ex-VAT and delivery).

The Japanese-built Carry Is powered by an all-alloy t3-litre SOHC 16-valve petrol engine producing 77hp (56kW) at 5,700rpm and 101lim (75Ibft) at 3,000rpm.

Other mechanical features include a fivespeed all-synchro transmission, electric power assisted rack-and-pinion steering, coil-spring suspension all-round and ventilated front disc brakes with servo and load sensing.

Tinted glass, clothtrimmed sliding and reclining seats and a radio/cassette player are part of the inventory in the well-appointed cabin.

The body has two sliding side doors and a rear tailgate, all controlled by central locking. The GVW is 1,450kg with a claimed kerbweight of 873kg. giving a true payload of around half a tonne.

The load floor is high but completely flat, and there is an additional underfloor storage area between the sliding doors.

Fears about the crashworthiness of the old Super Carry design have been addressed with a front crumple zone and a steering column which meets the latest impact standards. Side intrusion door bars, height-adjustable seatbelts and a driver's airbag are all included as standard.

The purchase price includes a threeyear/60,000 mile warranty with 12 months' roadside assistance and recovery.
