NEW director of general highways at the Department of Transport is T. P. Hughes who takes over from J. A. Jukes who is to retire. The changes also mean that P. J. Harrop is to be promoted to become deputy secretary at the Department of the Environment.
At the same time, P.C. McQuail is to return from loan to the Civil Service Department to become Under Secretary at the DoE.
City Link Transport has appointed three new directors to its board. They are: 38-year-old Michael Farback who has been with the company for six years since it was acquired by present managing director Robert Thomas.
Christopher Sullivan, who joined the company in 1971 as a driver, but since 1975 he has been operations manager at the King's Cross depot.
And Brian Thomas also joins the board. He is already a board member of the holding company, City Link Transport Holdings.
Norfolk Line has appointed three new sales managers to take on responsibility for Scotland, the South of England and the North of England.
Clive Berrisford becomes sales manager for London \zd the South of England, Stephen Cooke takes on the Midlands and the North of England; while • Ron McKeown takes over as sales manager for Scotland.
On the passenger front, London Transport has announced the appointment of a new planning officer for transport strategy. He is R. H. Meads, who will be responsible for the formulation of policies and plans for major changes.
Leyland Truck and Bus has appointed Allen Russell as its maiteting director. He joins Leyland from Ford where he has been for 25 years.
New technical manager for DAF Trucks is Robert Kieft, while David Pickering becomes technical sales engineer. Geoff Harvey becomes sales administration manager, and Alan Ainsworth is the new dealer supply supervisor.
Scotts Commercial 'Vehicles has appointed Gerald Joseph as general manager of the Bedford depot. He moves to his new post from Ford and Slater where he was general manager at Norwich and Grimsby.
European Ferries has appointed Cohn Smith as its new assistant to the managing director of both the Felixstowe Dock and Railway company and the Townsend Thoresen /Transport Ferry Service.
