Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

A DOUBLE-REDUCTION axle for I-1 optional fitting to certain chassis has been introduced by Leyland Motors, Ltd. It is offered for the four-wheeled Beaver and Super Beaver and Hippo, Super Hippo and Octopus chassis with single

drive rear bogies. On all models the new axle, when specified, supplants overhead-worm units.

It is unlike the lighter double-reduction axle developed for the Comet and Super Comet, which has spiral-bevel primary drive and epicyclic gearing in the hubs. For the latest axle, double-helical secondary gearing provides the greatest reduction.

The hypoid-bevel input gearing gives only slight reduction and this permits the incorporation of a large and robust pinion. Collector discs and scoops give positive lubrication throughout the axle.

" BAD " SUMMONS: CASE FAILS

ASUMMONS against his 'clients was bad in law, Mr. T. H. Campbell Wardlaw told Bishop Auckland magistrates last week, and he declined to plead guilty or not guilty to it.

He was representing Dent's Transport (Spennymoor), Ltd., Tudhoe . Colliery, County Durham, who were ,charged with failing to produce a record to an official examiner.

Mr. Wardlaw said that the summons did not state where the alleged offence was committed, and gave insufficient information. The wording did not specify which record, just a certain record."

The prosecution had been brought under the Goods Vehicles (Keeping of Records) Regulations, 1935. After an adjournment, the magistrates dismissed the ease, and ordered the prosecution to pay £5 5s. towards the cost of the defence. [The company's applications to the Northern Licensing Authority are reported on page 270.] WALLACE ARNOLD DEAL
