REPRESENTATIVES of municipal busmen on Tuesday overwhelmingly carried a resolution to accept the offer of more pay, fewer hours and additional holidays which was ratified by last week's meeting of the National Joint Industrial Council for the road passenger industry.
The increases, which range from 9s. 2d.-I0s. 9d. a week and affect 75,000 drivers, conductors and maintenance men, will operate from this week.
Passengers on Middlesbrough Transport Department buses—which boast the cheapest fares in the country—may soon have to pay higher fares as a result of the new awards.
At a meeting of the transport committee, Ald. W. Flynn, chairman, said that appreciable extra income would be needed. A special meeting would be held soon to consider fare revisions.
