Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Metco announces a complete range of mechanical handling systems to complement its wire, powder and plasma flame spraying equipment. These "robots" are designed to facilitate coating on to diameters such as shaft bearings and on to flat or curved surfaces.

All the handling units are built so that any combination can be used to give a required movement to the work-piece and to the spray-gun. Diameters are rotated vertically by a turntable or horizontally by a headstock while the flame spray gun is accurately moved by an appropriate traverse unit.

Horizontal and vertical traverse units are combined to scan flat or curved surfaces. Mechanical and electrical interlocking takes only a few minutes and when grouped, one control panel is selected as the "master" and the other becomes its slave.

All the features and control facilities of each unit are retained when units are combined. Sliding stops, located beneath a hinged inspection flap, are easily set to give the required working stroke. After a programmed number of strokes, the traverse retracts at rapid feed to a parking position. Where a flame spray gun is also automatically controlled, spraying only takes place over the required part of the stroke and stops after a preselected number of strokes.
