Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• The road test report of the 81VIC Mastiff 26-ton-gross tractive unit published on July 25 included a criticism of the "bumpy"' ride given by the front suspension. The suspension design has now been revised by the introduction of lower-rate springs for production chassis.

Shortly before the modification was incorporated in production, the opportunity was taken to assess the improvement on a run over varying classes of road in the area of the BMC factory at Longbridge. This test confirmed that the changes made by BMC had brought about a considerable improvement in the ride. The circuit covered included trunk and country roads, some with very uneven surfaces and M5 motorway which has some stretches in need of repair. The suspension was found to be as good as on any previous tractive unit tested by Commercial Motor and the original qualities of minimum pitching and roll were found to he still in evidence.
