deal by Derek Moses

• A deal which will lead to the formation of one of London's largest independent coach operators has, I understand, been concluded between Hall's Coaches Ltd., Hounslow (trading as Silverline Tours) and Valliant Cronshaw Ltd., under which the former company will acquire the latter's 70-strong coach business. Full details are expected to be announced on Monday.

Hall's Coaches Ltd. is a company which has expanded rapidly in recent years. In addition to its Silverline operations, the company has contracts to carry passengers between London (Heathrow) Airport and West London air terminals for both Trans World Airlines and Pan American World Airways, with coaches painted in the standard Liveries of the two airlines.

Considerable expansion of the fleet is required to meet the needs of the new Boeing 747 jumbo jets which both airlines are to introduce, and the additional space and facilities which the acquisition of Valliant Cronshaw would bring would be invaluable. When the first jumbo jet on regular service lands at London Airport, (now expected early next year), the company will have 15 'coaches in Pan Am livery to meet the 375passenger giant.

Valliant Cronshaw itself is an amalgama tion of two well-known Greater London coach operators, Valliant having acquired the Cronshaw business, together with about 30 coaches, in April 1966. This resulted in a combined fleet of about 100 coaches but this has been gradually reduced to about 70 coaches.

The company has been part of the American-owned Earls Court Holdings, and has specialized in the operation of tours of Great Britain for American and Australian visitors. It has undertaken extensive advertising in America and Australia, and specialized in prestige work, such as providing coaches for Mecca on duties including the transport of "Miss World" finalists.
