WHEN the hearing of the application by Northern Roadways, Ltd., to renew its Scotland-London licences was resumed last week, it was alleged that a supporting witness had been told by an employee of Scottish Omnibuses, Ltd., an objector: " You cannot expect any more favours from us. In future you will have to fight for everything you get. I'll fix you for this."

The witness was a Dundee coach operator. The Scottish Licensing Authority said: "I have no hesitation in saying that whether in jest or in earnest, the remarks should never have been made, and they raise very serious implications." Later he announced that there appeared to be doubt as to what transpired and that he proposed to invite the witness Mr. Dickson, and the person alleged to have made the remarks to meet him.

Mr. I. Shearer, Q.C., for Scottish Omnibuses, Ltd., agreed that the remarks, if made, were unfortunate and indicated that he considered interference with witnesses to be intolerable.
