Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

THE IRISH ROAD Haulage Association (IRHA) has called for petrol tankers entering the Dublin Port Tunnel to be escorted by safety vehicles. It fears that current safety measures are not enough to prevent a serious accident. The tunnel opens in midDecember and the IRHA plans to meet its operator Transmute to

press its case. "We believe petrol tankers must be accompanied for the first six months at least." says IRHA president Vincent Caulfield. In other countries oil tankers are banned from tunnels. "It is not necessarily the tanker driver or owner who causes the problems. The tunnel will be an option for motorists during the

peak period." He also fears that congestion on the M50 will lead back into the tunnel, so if an accident happened its consequences would be particularly serious.

Transroute says tankers will be required to travel no closer than 200m to the vehicle in front and those carrying petrol products must have flashing amber lights.
