II Construction work on the much-delayed tunnel givir access to Dublin Port will start early next year.
When completed, the new route will allow trucks leavir the port to join the motorway system without enteric Dublin city.
The IRES53m design and construction contract has bee awarded to a consortium of construction companies fro' the Republic, the UK, and Japan.
There will be no charge for trucks using the tunnel, Ix cars will be tolled to discourage them from using the no access route.
The tunnel will run from the M1 motorway at Santry 1 the port. The 5.6km project will be a motorway with tt lanes on each side. Four-and-a-half kilometres of this w be in the tunnel; construction is scheduled to take mot than three-and-a-half years.
