041-year-old woman who threatened to jump off a bridge was i prevented from committing suicide by the quick thinking of a Woodbridge driver who used his trailer as a safety net. The aptly nained John Driver has received the Royal Humane Society Award for his part in the rescue of the distressed woman. She had apparently run from a nearby Pub to a bridge over the Brighton bypass on the A27 and begun to climb aver. John, who works for Debach Enterprises, saw a pair of feet dangling and stopped beneath the bridge so that, if the woman fell, she would land in his trailer
Subsequently the police lowered her stiffly on to tint trailer with the assistance of the fire service and motorists Inspector Peter Krolik, who presentedjohn with his award at Woodbridge Police Station, said that he acted "in a very compassionate, cool and calm manner while going about his normal job as a lorry driver".
