Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Sparkling performance by the Leyland Marathon when put through CM's full operational trial has resulted in some impressive test figures. By covering the 728-mile route to Scotland and back at an average speed of 42.7 mph the TL12-engined Marathon cut two hours off the average time, and still managed to achieve 6.5 mpg overall for this fully-laden run. Fuel consumption varied from 9 mpg on the most favourable sections to 4.8 mpg on the tough climbs in the North East.

The vehicle was impressive — but not perfect. The technical editor will provide a full report in next week's issue of CM.

Also in this October 26 issue, Martin Hayes will be explaining the reasons why Scottish Bus Group adopts an individualistic attitude to vehicle design; and Johnny Johnson will be reporting on the FTA's tachograph seminar.
