Amongst the papers submitted for the graduates' prize awarded annually by the council of the Institution of Automobile Engineers were two of such merit that the council decided to augment the prizes and award first prizes both to Mr. E. W. Simian, of the Birmingham branch, for his paper on "The Straight-eight Engine," and to Mr. G. L. Ensor, of the Luton branch, for his paper entitled "The Elements of Touring Car Engine Design."

from £4,000 in 1920-21 to £18,767 in. 1925-6, which, with the expenses rather' more than £14,000, enabled £4,370 to be set aside for loan charges, capital' expenditure and so forth. These figures' look very well alongside thoSe of three Or four years. ago. The' number of bits riders has grown from 161,900 to 8;000,000. The income for the current year, moreover, it expeoted to reach the ,f 20,060 mark in spite of the general strike. .
On View During the Car Show.
Although there will be no Commercial Motor Eihibition at Olympia this year,. it will interest some of our readers to learn that Messrs. A. E. Tapper and Co., 244, Earl's Court Road, London,
have concluded arrangements whereby a range of Brockway goods and passenger-carrying vehicles will be on show. at the premises of the" Olympia Motor Co., 1, Addison Road, during the period of the Motor Show from October 22nd to 30th. The cOmpany have also made arrangements for Brockway buses to meet main-line trains at the various termini and to convey visitors to Olympia, but seats on these vehicles must be booked beforehand at the head offices of the company.
