50 cwt. Lorry.

STAND No. 26.

British Agents: Seabrooke Bros., 57, Great Eastern Street, London, E.C. THE NAME of this chassis has been well chosen, for it is of strong and solid construction, and incorporates components of sound design, which have been well tried.

Two models are shown on the stand of Messrs. Seabrooke Bros., of 57, Great Eastern Street, London, E.C., the role concessionnaires, one being a 30 cwt. chassis and the other a 20 cwt, model. Each model is very similar in design, the outstanding difference between them being that the lighter vehicle has single tyres on the rear wheels, whereas the 30 cwt, chassis has twin solids.

The engine employed is specially designed and is of the overhead-valve type. It, is known as the Gray Victory. It has a bore and stroke of 3,', ins. and Sins. respectively, and is of the four-cylinder rnonobloc type. The valves are interchangeable and the cylinder head is detachable. Three-paint suspension is used for the engine. Lubrication is by force feed to the three main bearings, timing

gears, a,nd connecting rod troughs, and thence by splash to the camshaft bearings, pistons, etc.

A. multiple-disc dry-plate type clutch is employed, the discs being of special heattreated steel, hardened and tempered, and working on studs of case-hardened nickel steel. The clutch is run dry ex

cept for the withdrawal bearing. A Fuller gearbox, which gives three speeds forward and a reverse, is bolted up with the clutch, and forms a unit with the engine.

From the gearbox to the back axle the drive is taken through a double universally jointed tubular shaft, each joint being totally enclosed in a dustproof ease. A double-reduction back axle of Clark' manufacture is embodied, the first redustion being by bevel gears and the second through Internal gears in the rear wheels.

The frame is of the usual channel-section pressed-steel type and the springs are semi-elliptic. The front axle is an I-beam drop forging and the stub axles are provided with tapered roller hearings for the front wheels. The hand brake operates on a drum situated behind the gearbox, and is of the contracting band type, whilst the foot brake operates on drums in the rear wheels.

The wheels are of the wood artillery type, and are fitted with 34 in. by 3i in. tyres on all four wheels. The wheelbase of the Napoleon is 11 ft., its track being 4 ft. 8 ins.
