Duke does not profess to have created a panacea to a national problem, but he has identified a need in the industry He reckons to have 100 regular site users, with new members joining up all the time.
His 31 years in the police force have given him a bulging contacts book of chief constables from whom he can draw chme figures, and his work specifically within road transport means he is on firstname terms with some of the industry's best-known haulage bosses.
He also has a response to the Professional Drivers' Association's concerns that drivers know pretty much everything there is to know about where to park overnight and don't need websites like his.
"They don't already know," he says. "They know about the A14, for example, but they don't know about all the other places, because we speak to them. When you mention a lay-by down the A42, they don't know about 'Betty's Burger Bar'. They have a regular route and they may do that for f ive years, but then, all of a sudden, they move to a Glasgow route and they don't know anything about that."
