HAULIERS are bring given their annual chance to bid for any increased EEC Community Quota permits next month, and are also being warned about changes in Yugoslavian transit permits.

While there looks like being little chance of the quota being increased (CM, October 22), operators are being advised to bid to the Department of Transport in time for the December 20 EEC Transport Ministers' meeting which will decide the matter.

They should contact EC Permits, International Road Freight Office, Department of Transport, Westgate House, Westgate Road, Newcastle upon Tyne, NE1 1TVV, marking their envelopes "EC: for the attention of Mr J. Bannister" in the top left-hand corner before December 6, detailing their bids.

Extra permits will be offered to operators prepared to surrender French or West German general quota permits from their 1984 bilaterial allocations. All bilateral permits surrendered will be returned to the general quota permit pool and will be available for redistribution in line with DTp policy.

Generally, the additional permits (if made available) will go to those operators offering the largest number of bilaterals in exchange, but previous use may also be taken into account.

Offers renewing their existing allocations have already been sent to appropriate permit holders.

Arrangements, meanwhile, for Yugoslavian permit allocation have been changed, and existing allocation holders are being informed of the procedures which will apply from January 1. Hauliers who do not have an allocation may obtain a guidance note from IRFO in Newcastle.
