Rates warning

TANKER operators have been warned by the Road Haulage Association to make sure rates they charge are in line with current costs — and they should be making frequent approaches to customers about rates.

The RHA says operators must go to their customers to allow for the continually rising prices of replacing both vehicles and their tanks, which have to be maintained to a high standard.

Operations for members of the bulk liquids group of the RHA have increased by around 18 per cent over the year which ended October 1 — and since then there has also been another price rise in fuel of about 1.5 per cent.

Pickfords merge

PICKFORDS INTERNATIONAL (UK) Ltd is to merge with Cotrali Ltd to form Cotrali-Pickfords Ltd to help with the economy and efficiency of both companies.

They are both members of the National Freight Corporation. The Pickfords offices are to be transferred to the Cotrali London headquarters.

Cotrali-Pickfords board will be Mr P. W. McGrath, chairman; Mr E. C. Newton, managing director; and Mr S. R. J. Fudge, Mr E. A. Lockley and Mr J. D. A. Tosetti.

Phase finished

FERRYMASTERS have completed the second phase of the expansion of their Immingham depot with a new 650sqm (7,000sqft) office block and new four and a half acre. marshalling yard. A further two and a half acres are as yet' undeveloped.

Workshop space has been added with four servicing bays operating 24-hour shifts, and new staff facilities to service the Ferrymasters Scandinavian TIR which are routed through Immingham.
