• Light van operators can harness the power of their vehicles to drive on-site cargo pumps, vehicle washers, fire-fighting equipment and other auxiliary plant, using a new roller drive device developed by British Twin Disc Ltd, of Strood, Rochester, Kent..

Any vehicle having single tyres on its driving axle can be used with the Power Base assembly, which comprises a pair of 4in.diameter steel rollers built into a small ramp frame. The vehicle is driven up onto the ramp, first gear is engaged and the power is taken off through the tyres.

Adaptors can be supplied enabling the output shaft from the driven roller on one side of the ramp to be coupled to most forms of auxiliary equipment.

Complete with a lOgal/min water pump— suitable for vehicle washer or fire-fighting applications — the Power Base unit, weighing 40Ib, is priced at £180. A selfcontained fire-fighting two-wheeled trailer incorporating a 75gal water tank, Power Base drive unit. and 400 psi "water fog" delivery nozzle is also being offered by BTD. It can be supplied with an 800 psi nozzle for high pressure cold water chassis cleaning.
