at the New Horticultural Hall, Westminster. this week) was relatively small, with under 50 exhibitors, but many items of interest to transport and warehousing managers were on display.

Pride of place was taken by a simulated automatic-warehousing display arranged by the Manufacturer; Equipment Co. Ltd., Sutton Road. Hull, in association with the English Electric Co. Ltd. The exhibit demonstrated how the basic warehousing problems of storage, order picking and goods routeing, including dispatch, might be carried out automatically. The display, supplemented by two excellent film commentaries showing the automatic warehouses of the British Shoe Corporation at Braunstone, Leicester and that of Westclox Ltd., at Dumbarton, indicated the tremendous strides taken towards fully ..automated storage in this country,

Boltless Systems, 1200 Uxbridge .Road, Hayes, Middx, showed a stand structure, with display panels, well illustrating their heavy-duty stOrage system suitable for pallet racks, drive-through racks, long span shelving, drum racks, storage platforms and the like._ The triple-taper tongue-locking action between the Main frames and bearer beams ensures a rigid, strong structure and one, moreover, free from obstructions--a great factor where narrow gangways are traversed by fork or hand trucks.

P. C. and C. K. Chase Ltd., Oyster Lane, Byfleet. Surrey, showed a range of integrated storage units including slidebar adjustable pallet rackings, Convertorack pallet converters and detachable cages for timber pallets.

Dillex Agencies Ltd., 17 Hampton Court Parade. East Molesey, Surrey, showed !heir Spiny mar line marking equipment, to mark on any road or warehouse floor surface 2-in., 3-in. or 4-in. lines to demarcate safety lanes, vehicle parking bays and the like.

Fix Equipment Ltd.; Kirkell Road, Basingstoke, had a large display of their well-known modular shelf and bin Units. and a completely new line known as

Big Bag". This was a collapsible plastics container on a 'built-in pallet, for the storage and tranSpoit of powders and granular materials: Filled, the containers carry 55 cu. ft. by volume, but. collapsed for storage or transport, they occupy. only 15 per cent of their ,filled volume.

Magnetic Handles (EET) Ltd., 89 Albert Road, Holley, Surrey, showed an interesting range of magnetic handling and holding devices utilizing a, new ceramic magnetic material lifting 50 times its own weight.

Tirfor Ltd., Halfway. Sheffield,

featured a selection of their pulling and shifting machines. together with suctionoperated " hand saving " lifting devices.

Mobile pallets, pallet containers and industrial shelving were displayed by Variant (Great Britain) Ltd., 422-4/6 Ley Street. Ilford. Essex, Minikay Ltd., Broadway Chambers, Ilford, Essex. showed air curtains for industrial users and some curtains specially designed for use with refrigerated transport.

Yacstak 5 cwt. stackers with normal or drum forks whose features include adjustable stradcfle legs were shown by Mobax (Hydraulics) Ltd.. 2 David Road. Powle Estate, Colnbrook.

Thermo Plastics Ltd., of Luton Road Works, Dunstable, exhibited samples of • handling, storage and transit containers including the first plastics bakery tray, which should be a popular replacement for the conventional wooden trays used: Metal rax Ltd., of Bordesley Green Road, Adderley Park, Birmingham 9, showed a range of tyre racks of interest to many transport organizations.

Jewsbury"s•Mechanical Handling Ltd.,

Southall House, , Southall Street, Manchester 3, illustrated their display with details of the Ameise portable, pedestrian operated, battery electric stacker, capable of loading or unloading a loaded pallet weighing I ton.
