• Scottish drivers are holding out for a 2.5% pay rise after conciliation service ACAS negotiated a 2% increase from hauliers in the Scottish Joint Industrial Council.
Although ACAS failed to settle talks, both sides made further concessions. Until ACAS was called in, the RHA members offered a 1.9% increase on basic pay. Their 2% offer, which was turned down by the Transport & General Workers Union, would have increased pay for a 38-tonne driver from ,£163.75 to £167.03 for a 40-hour week. The TGWU, which most recently demanded a 3.6% rise, told ACAS its members would accept a 2.5% increase and would be prepared to drop some of their original demands (CM 21-27 April).
