• ICI Ltd has announced a change in distribution policy concerning its Drikold solid carbon dioxide used in refrigerated transport.
Drikold, claims ICI, reduces significantly running and maintenance costs compared with mechanical systems, and to meet an expanding market which, in the chilled food sector, is expected to increase by a factor of one hundred; 11 merchant stockists have been appointed.
Until now the Agricultural Division of ICI has dealt direct with some 2500 customers with orders ranging from several thousand tons to a single block. The new distribution system employs insulated containers, each holding 114 28+1b blocks of Drikold. These are packed at the point of manufacture at Teesside and need not be opened again until reaching the customer even though they may have passed through several stages of distribution.
