STOUT RESISTANCE TO A CORPORATION'S TOUR-LICENCE APPLICATIONS

The C.M.U.A. and a Local Association to Object at Friday's First Yorkshire Sitting HE first sitting of the Traffic Corn missioners for the Yorkshire Area, Whose offices are at 5, Swinegate, Leeds, will take place at 10 a.m. on Friday next, at the Town Hall, Sheffield. The applications to be heard consist of two large batches of municipal applications.

Rotherham Corporation applies for licences to continue 34 ordinary services, of which six are objected to Mr. H. Barker has filed objections to those from Rotherham to Braithwell and Thrybergh, and those via two routes to Silverwood Colliery.

Formidable opposition will also be met with on the through route, Rotherham to Doncaster and Sheffield. Objections have been filed by the Joint Committee, Sheffield Corporation and Rail

viayEd Ens Services, and by Doncaster Corporation, both of which cater for the route. Doncaster Corporation also objects to a Conanby-Doncaster service. Rotherham Corporation has in the past put into operation a number of outtown services, not always without opposition, and these objections by interested parties are to be expected.

An application from the same corporation is to be heard for a half-day tour to Edwinstowe every Sunday during the summer.

East Midland Motor Services, Ltd., and the Mansfield and District Omnibus Owners Association are objecting to Chesterfield Corporation's application for licences for day tours to Ashover, IVIonsal Dale, Eakewell, Barlow, etc., from April to August. As licences arc sought for 30 vehicles for this, the reason for the objections can be well understood. It is interesting to note that the Commercial Motor Users Association also is objecting in this instance.

Licences are also sought by Chesterfield Corporation for 17 ordinary routes. East Midland Motor Services. Ltd., objects to those from Chesterfield to Staveley and Temple Normanton, on the grounds that it provides an adequate service. Stfiveley is served by the company's Chesterfield-Worksop line.
