Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

The Freight Transport Association (FTA) is arguably the highest-profile trade association in the freight industry. Representing freight customers as well as providers, it has a multimodal remit. Its member services include vehicle inspection, tachograph analysis and other compliance services, advice, networking through specialist groups, insurance, recovery and training. It also has a number of subscription-based services such as the international advice service and its environmental tool CarbonFTA.

The FTA is well respected as a lobbying body, and carries out activities at regional as well as national level. It is also involved heavily in the translator of European Union (EU) legislation into domestic law.

Director of external affairs Geoff Dossetter says: "The FTA has always been good at identifying what it is that members want and then supplying that in an operator-friendly manner, whether ourselves or through a third party The Vehicle Inspection Service is a good example where the FTA recognised that a change in licensing would put a greater onus on operators to ensure roadworthiness. That philosophy [of anticipating and meeting need] still stands."

He says the FTA works hard to get the sector the best deal from legislation "and then when that's done, we provide the tools and advice you need to meet the legislation". Contact: www.fta.co.uk or 08717 11 22 22
