TO avoid transhipping and to prevent drivers having to stay away at night on trunk run, Cusick Transport, Ltd., Collyhurst, Manchester, .last week applied for an A licence to cover four articulated outfits.

Mr. Alan Cusick, a director, told the North Western Deputy Licensing Authority, Mr. J. R. Lindsay, that the company wanted drivers to change semi-trailers without changing vehicles at half-way stages, so that they could return to base at a normal time.

The British Transport Commission objected.

Mr. J. A. Dunkerley, for the applicant, said their 34 vehicles, including five " artics" and five drawbar trailers, were nearly all engaged on longdistance work. If the application were granted it was proposed to surrender two special A vehicles in the North Western Area, one in the Scottish Area and one vehicle and drawbar trailer in the Northern Area.

There would be no gain in carrying capacity and there was no. intention of doing more work.

After Mr. Cusick had stated that his company were not interested in Northern Ireland ferry work, Mr. E. Oswald, for the 13.T.C.; said they were content to leave the matter to the Authority. The application., was granted.
