AN application by B.R.S. (Pickfords), Ltd., Stockton-on-Tees, to add a lowloading articulated vehicle to their existing A licence was refused by the Northern Deputy Licensing Authority at Stockton on Tuesday, giving a reserved decision..
At the original hearing the Deputy Authority, Mr. G. W. Duncan, was told that the vehicle consisted of a tractor of 12 tons 2 cwt. and a drawbar trailer of 15 tons. It would .mainly be used for carrying power-station generators and boilers for Richardsons Westgarth, of West Hartlepool, and vessels for Whessoe, Ltd., of .Darlington. Up to November 4 last year Pickfords had received £18,257 from Whessoe. compared with £3,125 the previous year.
A witness for Whessoe who could have established the case had been unable to attend the previous hearing, said. Mi. Duncan. It is most unfortunate for Pickfords because, as it happened, the success of their application turned on his evidence. •
