Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

AS PRESSURE GROWS from the industry to beat congestion by conducting more nighttime deliveries, fridge manufacturer Carrier Transicold has embarked on a 12-month demonstration tour of major fleet operators and supermarkets with a dedicated urban specification reefer trailer equipped with its ultra-quiet Vector 1850 City fridge unit.

First tested in partnership with Sainsbury's in 2008, the low-noise system has proved capable of reducing the average 73 decibel operating noise level recorded by conventional reefer trailers to less than 60dB. To achieve it Carrier has under-slung the Vector 1850's diesel engine on the trailer chassis in a specially-insulated cabinet. The Vector City fridge system has an average operating sound level of 57.7dB — normal conversation levels are usually around 60dB.

Carrier Transicold UK's operations director Scott Dargan says: "Every day thousands of vehicles deliver chilled and frozen food to retail stores around the country, many of which are in residential areas governed by stringent delivery bylaws limiting off-peak deliveries. With the trend moving toward tougher legislation on noise and emissions, operators must find ways of addressing these issues if they want to deliver goods during the night or in the early hours of the morning when the roads are at their least congested and quietest."

Carrier says the Vector 1850 City fridge is well suited to underslung applications as its compressor is indirectly driven by an aircraft-rated electrical generator.
