HOW DRIVERS CAN HELP.

A suggestion that drivers employed by members of the C,M.U.A, should forward to the Association ideas for the promotion of road safety which occurred to them as a result of observations during their journeys, was put forward by Mr. S. E. Pitts, of the legal department of the Association's NorthEastern Division, in a speech, at Leeds, last Saturday. The occasion was the division's drivers' second annual supper, when Mr. Joseph Wallis, chairman of the; division, presided over a large attendance.

When drivers encountered something appertaining to the roads which was wrong from the standpoint of safety, and for which they could put forward a practical remedy, they should forward their ideas to the C.M.U.A., with a view to the suggestions being submitted to the Minister of Transport.

Further road-safety measures might be introduced in the near future, Mr. Pitts added, and it was desirable that, in considering the introduction of such measures, the Minister of Transport should have the benefit of practical suggestions from men who, through their daily work, had a wide knowledge of road conditions.

A -talk on the care and maintenance of commercial vehicles was given by Mr. F. C. Whitehouse, regional technical departmental manager, general utilities division, Morris Commercial 'Cars, Ltd.
