The managing director of Freightliners Ltd, Cyril Bleasdale leaves his post to become the director of BR's Inter-City passenger services. Mr Bleasdale joined BR in 1 95 0, holding various executive posts in operating and commercial fields.

He became managing director of Freightliners in 1975, when it was part of the National Freight Corporation. Henry Sanderson has been appointed director of British Rail's freight operations. He started with BR as a traffic apprentice in 1948 and worked his way up to chief freight manager before becoming director.
