Nothing could be more topical than the manual's reminder that "judging the speed and judging the distance of other vehicles are both more difficult on a motorway and at night." I wonder how many of the drivers, both car and commercial, who piled up in the latest spate of motorway crashes, had bothered to give any real thought to distance judgment? Very few, I guess.
