dominic.perryfiJrLi.co.uk GOLDSTAR TRANSPORT. the Felixstowe-based container haulier, has cemented its position as one of the big players in the sector with the acquisition of numerous assets of Leggett's Transport in 'Woolpit, Suffolk.

The firm has bought the yard and container storage facilities at Woolpit, plus taken over the leases on Leggett's 43 trucks and 60 trailers In addition, 57 drivers and 12 office staff have transferred across to Goldstar and it has taken on some of Leggett's contracts However, Goldstar MD Matthew Ashworth stresses that it has not bought the entire Leggett's business, only selected assets He says that the move, which takes Goldstar's fleet to almost 250 vehicles, should boost the firm's turnover to more than /....50m next year. He adds:" It gives us the space for parking, and the container facility will be used for off-dock storage and night trunking operations from Felixstowe. We can offer our customers something new."

Ashworth says that the market is relatively buoyant at present and predicts this will continue for the rest of the year.

It has also recently opened a new site in Wakefield. West Yorkshire, in response to customer demand.

Leggett's Transport went into administration in July last year, with its assets bought by a firm called Marrnex. run by Christopher Nunn and former Leggett's operations manager Barry Hynard.
