• The Vehicle Inspectorate has postponed plans to split its operations into vehicle testing, enforce ment and central functions until 1 November. The VI blames the two-month delay on lack of time because of summer holidays. A spokeswoman says there are still "organisational things that have to be sorted out".
The pay and grading exercise has also been postponed "until people are settled in their new jobs", she adds.
Vehicle examiners are being asked which section they wish to work in; enforcement will be split into 23 units including traffic and vehicle examiners.
