VAILURE of a heavy tractor unit -and
multi-trailer outfit, with a total laden weight of 235 tons, resulted in the bloCking of the Settle-Kendal main road throughout Tuesday night of last week. Loaded with a ship's gear case, the -unit was proceeding from Barrow-ih-Furness to Newcastle-upon-Tyne by a circuitous route.
People from houses at the foot of the hill were taken from their homes while avempts were made to move the trailers. Additional towing equipment was taken to the spot the following day.
