Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

OWNERS of motor vehicles which 1./make use of the Great North Road when travelling from northeip districts are often faced by considerable difficulty in obtaining suitable garage accommodation for the vehicles and sleeping quarters for the drivers, and they will be in• terested in an important development, in connection with such accommodation which is being provided on the Great North Road in the neighbourhood of Whetstone. There a comprehensive garage and service station is nearing completion. It will hold 100 vehicles, of which 50 will be under cover, and sleeping accommodation is being arranged for from 40 to 50 drivers, The premises occupy some two acres, and an important. feature of the plans is that petrol or steam vehicles with trailers can be driven in and out. again without the necessity for uncoupling.

Fuelling-up will be attended to by six petrol pumps, and a repair shop, with a pit., capable of taking six lorries will be provided, so that drivers can execute ordinary repairs, whilst a larger iepair. depot is also in course of construction,. but this will be staffed by mechanics attached to the depot.

By arrangement with some of the priu, cipal makers suitable stocks of nailing repair spares will be carried, so that at all hours, road springs, radiators, valves, etc., will be obtainable at makers' prices, although only urgent needs will be met in this way.

Raised ramps will permit of inspection

with the vehicles loaded. Girders for holding tackle capable of lifting heavY• castings, etc., is being provided, and the breakdown crane, which is already in . service, is capable of lifting any vehicle out of a ditch. A large telephone exchange is fitted, and arrangements are being made so that orders for drivers on long-distance work can be forwarded to the garage.

The space by the filling station will allow 12 lorries to be in position withmit congestion, and free garage for a ' reasonable period will be permited while drivers stay for orders or meals.

A service station of this description will certainly prove of the greatest advantage to owners and drivers alike. It will save ninth wasted time on the part of those drivers who are not cognizant' of suitable garage accommodation close to, or in, the Metropolis, and we have already drawn attention editorially to the need for cheap and clean places vsbere drivers can obtain lodgings.
