‘_ GARAGE'S LICENCE was revoked after it was ound guilty of fiddling the records of the truck it used or hauling customers' trailers to test stations.

Warrington-based Ubrek, which held a two-vehicle icence,had been called before N orth Western Deputy Fraffic Commissioner Mark Hinchliffe, Vehicle examiner Lee Gauckwin said it became ipparent during a maintenance investigation that hree inspection records from April to August had )een falsified, as had the forward planning system. t seemed that the senior fitter, Carl Haslam, had )anicked and falsified the records and the planner )ecause there were no safety inspecion records since February 2006.

After examining inspection ecords produced at the public nquiry, Gauckwin said the mileage m a record dated 15 December did lot match the tachograph chart for hat date. He was told that the fitter vas dating the sheets at the time he vas making them, rather than when he vehicle was inspected. Director and transport manager Robert Archer told the DTC that the company serviced and maintained rigid trucks and trailers and prepared them for their annual tests. The vehicle was used to take trailers for test.

Due to pressure of work he had left it to other people to see that things were done correctly.

In reply to the DTC,Archer said Haslam had been severely reprimanded but this had not been put in writing. If the company did not have an 0-licence he would have to get rid of half the workforce.

He thought the fitters had been filling in batches of inspection records days after the inspections had taken place.

Deciding that the company and Archer had lost their repute, Hinchliffe said the situation was aggravated as the company provided maintenance services for other operators. If it was willing to fabricate its own records, what did that do for its integrity to the industry as a whole?
