Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Renault VI is to cease fitting its own gearboxes in favour of ZF units, after a joint-venture deal which will hand over control of RVI's transmission plant.

The Boutheon plant will be 60% owned by ZF, and will build the company's Ecornid transmissions as well as Renault's heavy-duty B9 and B18 designs. But these will gradually be replaced by the Friedrichshafen-built Ecosplit and AS-Ironic boxes.

The move is part of Renault's strategy LO move away from making ancillary products—a similar arrangement has been made with US manufacturer Nelson to make exhaust systems and air tanks. But a Renault spokesman denied this would extend to engines: RVI's partnership with Mack offers sufficient sales volume to make engine development viable.
