Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Those Who said that the Single-deck Multi-wheeler Would not Succeed now have Cause for Reflection.

THE demand for Karrier rigid-frame six-wheeled passenger vehicles is keeping the company extremely busy. These vehicles are being operated most successfully, particularly in the hands of municipal users, and repeat orders have been received from Leeds, Salford, Oldham, Portsmouth, Liverpool, Wallasey, and Halifax.

After an extensive experience with a fleet of 48 Karrier six wheelers of both the single-deck and double-deck types, the Liverpool Corporation Tifunways Department has recently given a fourth repeat order for 20 single-deck sixwheelers, each to seat 40 passengers, and this decision further to augment its fleet in this matter is not without its significance.

The Halifax Corporation Tramways Department is also finding that sixwheelers are a paying proposition, both financially and in respect of the appreciation of the public, and it has recently added six single-deckers of this type, each seating 32 passengers, to its existing fleet of 32 Karrier six-wheeiers.

One of these vehicles, with a body by Hall, Lewis and Co., Ltd., is shown in an accompanying illustration. It has front and rear entrances, seats of the spring-back pattern, and three of the five windows at each side adjustable. Each

vehicle is finished in the corporation's colours of maroon and black.

As regards the chassis, the sixcylindered, side-valve engine develops 60 b.h.p. at a normal speed of 1,250 r.p.m., add a maximum h.h.p. of something like 80 ; however, an engine governor prevents the vehicle speed from exceeding 20 m.p.h. except when coasting. Effective braking is provided by operating the shoes on all four driving wheels on the 'Westinghouse air-pressure system. The tyres are 34-in. by 7-in. single pneumatics all round.
