A WEST Yorkshire family haulier has entered liquidation after 35 years after the quarry it serviced ran out of stone.
Eliot Smith in Halifax specialised in landfill and quarry haulage and tipping.
Sole director Gordon Smith said the business never recovered after the local stone ran out and the haulage side went quiet. “My son is carrying on in a small way, with one wagon,” he said. “But I’m now retired. It’s a sign of the times. It’s very tight in quarry haulage.” At its height the company employed 15 drivers, landfill and machine operators.
