Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

paid the Road Transport Industry Training Board levy without any argument, but since it is disappearing why should we pay a large amount of our dwindling profits to an organisation that has done absolutely nothing for us?

N H Bristol.

AThe RTITB has the right to apply a levy against a transport undertaking by the powers given by a statutory instrument.

The role of the RTITB is to set training standards for the transport industry. In the road haulage sector, if an undertaking meets the criteria as laid down by the board assessors, then the company can apply for an exemption to the levy. The board can contribute towards the salaries of training managers in collective driver training schools. The levies are based on a percentage of payroll which for period 23 (1988-89) was 0.8% and for period 24 is 0.6%. For period 25 (1990-91) it will be 0.6%. The board loses its right to raise a levy in 1992, hence the reduction in the levy.
