BECAUSE his employers were in a 1-0 state of " administrative chaos," a lorry driver worked more than 91 hours in one week, coverine 1.114 miles, it was stated at Wednesbury stipendiary court last week.

Bernard Arthur Barrett, Walsall, admitted 24 offences in connection with driving continuously over certain periods of 24 hours. His employers, British Steel Construction (Wednesbury), Ltd.. pleaded guilty to permitting the offences, and asked for 23 similar cases to he taken into account.

Barrett was fined a total of £48 and the company a total of £96. with £10 17s. 6d, costs.

Mr. M. T. A. Matthews. prosecuting, said Barrett's wages showed "very substantial earnings," ranging from £13 18s. lid, to £26 12s. 5d, a week, during the.tirne of the offences. Mr. G. Thornton, defending, said: " This whole thing has arisen front terrific pressure of work which has caused administrative chaos."
