BRITAIN'S present "trade honeymoon " would not last much longer, said Sir Miles Thomas, vice-chairman of the Nuffield Organisation, in an interview before he sailed to America on the "Queen Elizabeth."

" We are not getting all these orders to-day because our goods are that much better than our competitors' products— don't let us deceive ourselves about that." he said. "Our overseas order book is full because we have run into fewer serious production troubles than our rivals."

After mentioning that he had twice visited the Continent, in the past few months, to investigate European manufacturers' production plans, Sir Miles said that he believed that Britain's best chance in the export markets lay in making plans complementary to those of America, rather than in direct opposition. He added that in America he would inquire into the possibility of obtaining alternatives to sheet steel and other raw materials to counteract the imminent grave shortage of sheet steel in Britain.

Sir Miles said that he would study the latest American sales technique. "because we ourselves shall need to know everything there is to know about selling, in the very near future."
