CORMATION of a new operating

group at Coventry was announced at the recent general meeting of the National Association of Road Transport Groups. Arrangements were also being made, it was stated, to set up groups in South-east London, Luton, Birkenhead, Hull, Manningtree, Lincoln and Ashford. The Merseyside, Widnes and Paragon Groups were now again in full working order.

Mr. R. G. Crowther, who is a member of the National Council of the Road Haulage Association, was elected to the executive.

Groups were recommended to examine the question of insuring goods in transit and to make certain that their traffic was properly covered, with particular reference to exceptional or expensive loads. During a long discussion on insurance, it was stated that the Manchester Group was paying a rate of 20s. on a joint policy covering seven members and was negotiating for a further reduction on condition that all members of the group subscribed.

The meeting decided that area secretaries of the R.H.A. should be asked to give all possible assistance to existing groups and in the formation of new groups. The importance of inter-group working was emphasized.

A member from Nottingham invited groups which were short of traffic to apply to Nottingham and District Hauliers, Ltd, for a share in the substantial business of hauling coal from the Nottingham area to Birmingham and other districts,
