Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

MANY of the troubles which occur in connection with the use of internalcombustion engines can be directly traced to impurities which enter with the fuel. Even though the petrol maty be entirely free from foreign matter when Placed in the tank, a certain quantity of dust may enter the carburation system and water is always formed from the condensation of the moisture in the air inside the tank. These factors generally result in inefficient carburation of the fuel, and a remedy for this trouble is to use a satisfactory type of petrol filter. The use of such a device also possesses merits on the score of economy.

A petrol filter of this class is the Blackman, which is marketed by Brown Bros., Ltd., Great Eastern Street, London, E.C.2. An improved apparatus, which is known as the Super model, has recently been introduced, and this is an advance on the earlier Blackman filter, inasmuch as it contains a number of refinements.. These include solderless unions, is larger bore in the sump than that previously used and an easily detachable drain-plug, which is fitted at the base of the device for emptying and cleaning purposes. To facilitate inspection, the cap of the filter is threaded, and, as the filtering apparatus is attached to this part, it can be easily drawn out of the interior. The new model is smaller and lighter than its prototype, and is made in brass instead of aluminium alloy.
