Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

31 ton Three-compartment Tipper. 5 ton Chassis.

STAND No. 23.

TWO vehicles only are shown on this stand, so that the number of uses to which the Pagefleld chassis. can be put is not so clearly demonstrated as on the stands of some other makers. Nevertheless, the two vehicles exhibited are very fine examples of heavy, vehicle design.

The F type stripped chassis is fitted with the well-known Dorman engine and with a. three-point' suspended fourspeed gearbox, no radical change in de-sign having taken place. It is mounted on Michelins disc wheels and pneumatic tyres, and is a good example of a chassis which can be used either for load carry

ing purposes or passenger work. It is characterised throughout by simplicity and robustness, whilst accessibility has evidently received careful consideration.

The tipping wagon, which. has been specially designed with short wheelbase for facilitating working in narrow places, has a useful sort of body for carrying

coal. The method of dividing this into three compartments, which can be emptied separately, makes it especiallY suitable for this -particular purpose, The tipping gearis mechanical and driven from the gearbox, the lifting screw being suitably encased to protect it from dust. In order to assist the manceuvreability of this vehicle, the frame is inswept from a paint just behind the gearbox, •allcaiving the track of the rear wheel to he reduced. The mounting of the driver's seat above the engine enables the body and cab to he -comfortably accommodated on the short chassis; this entails a certain amount of overhang in front, .but it is not unsightly. This is a type of machine for which there should be considerable demand, and it gives evidence of a close study of the difficulties of haulage under certain conditions and the determination to provide the most suitable type of chatsis to overcome them.

As would be expected, Walker Bros. (Wigan), Ltd., have made a very creditable display.
