IN RESPONSE to your campaign regarding speed limits for HGVs on single-carriageway roads, I cannot agree more strongly that the current law is absolutely ridiculous.

I find that I am driving like a learner driver now as a result of me picking up two lots of penalty points for breaking the above law. Both occasions were on wide, straight A-roads and! was driving at under 50niph, perfectly safely and in control of my vehicle.

We now have to drive in a way that obeys petty out-of-date rules and not according to our expertise and the condition of the roads.

There are many occasions when travelling through limited areas that we drive well below the stated limit as it is not safe to drive at 30 or 40mph.

I feel so guilty and stressed when I am doing 44/45mph and see in my mirrors a string of traffic behind me and it's usually not long before I get a car pulling in front of me after overtaking in a dangerous position out of sheer frustration.

Considering the expertise experienced HGV drivers must have in driving and carrying out their daily work, slapping a £.60 fixed penalty and three penalty points for breaking an out-ofdate law is comparable to lining a brain surgeon for not sticking a plaster on straight.

I wish you good luck in your campaign and hope that we can get some common sense back to this ever increasing "nanny state" country.
