VAT change

A REVISED notice No 727 (VAT: Special Schemes for retailers) has been issued by Customs and Excise. This will widen the retailer's choice of VAT scheme by extending existing arrangements for separating gross takings for goods supplied at different tax rates.

Also included are new procedures for treatment of credit transactions within VAT calculations. The new edition will come into force on January 1, 1978 and is obtainable from any local VAT office.

Lift-off

JONES Cranes Ltd of Letchworth, Herts, has appointed a new Eire distributor for its range of mobile, truck, crawler tracked and rough terrain cranes — A. H. Masser Ltd of Ballyfermot, Dublin. Masser, a member of the TMG Group Ltd, already distributes several well-known 'products such as Hyster Fork Lift Trucks and Winget Construction Equipment. Jones Cranes is a member of the 600 Group.

Southern style

LEYLAND distributor Southern Bros, of Preston, now concentrate all commercial vehicle activities on a new 21/2-acre site at the docks — formerly a BP distribution depot. And a six-bay workshop, service reception and new vehicle compound have been added. The company which holds Leyland Sherpa and light/medium lorry franchises, has other depots in Bolton, Horwich, Preston and Blackpool.

New service

TRANSFLASH has opened a new groupage once-weekly import-export service to New York. Export cargo will be consolidated in 20ft and 40ft containers at Transflash's main warehouse in Bradford and will be discharged into a private bonded warehouse in New Jersey with a Customs officer in attendance to avoid pier delays.
