Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

which British Timken; Ltd., of Cliestou Road, Aston, Birmingham, has produced for' steering-gear bearings is interesting in that it cheapens the manufacture of the complete gear. It was primarily intended to meet the requirements of American manufacturers of proprietary steering gears and, so soon as it beesline available, was adopted upon Buick, Cadillac, Lincoln and Ford vehicles, and quickly taken up by other American, English and Continental concerns.

The economy results from the fact that, in making the worm for an ordinary worm-and-sector steering gear, the steel used is invariably of a quality suitable for case-hardening. It, therefore, becomes Unnecessary to fit a separate bearing cone with a hardened raceway. The number of parts is, consequently, less, the cost is reduced and the bearing may be completely dismantled, for the rollers are contained in a double cage which can be conveniently handled as a unit. The bearing is manufactured in a range of sizes suitable for all motor, vehicles from light cars to the heaviest of commercial types, and details of the cone formation on the worm, together with full fitting instructions can be obtained from British Timken, Ltd. ,The, five sizes available range

from 1.938 ins. to 2.531 ins. in overall cup diameter, and from in. to in. in effective roller width, the angle between the inner faces of diametrically opposite rollers ranging from 29 degrees 58 minutes to 31 degrees 52 minutes. The full assembly width ranges from .4855 in.' to .5625 in. As regards' the case-hardening, cementation should penetrate the raceways to a depth of .040 in. and should result in 'a scleroscope reading of 75 to 85.
