Arnold Handley, who writes in Body, apparently regards historic-vehicle enthusiasts as fools to be parted from their money as soon as possible. But unsentimental as he is, his armour lets in the draught at one point.
"There is only one oldie that I could lose my heart over," he says. "A van, twin cylinders horizontally opposed, 946cc, built in the late 1930s, massive unstallable flywheel . . . the faithful, gormless Jowett Bradford."
It was as English as Yorkshire pudding, although this would no longer be a recommendation in a suburb of Pakistan.
